Perlak/Tronzo Duo

Duo-kim:david-duo-berklee.jpg

The Perlak/Tronzo Duo bridges the worlds of classical and modern improvised music. Their repertoire consists of spontaneously composed and co-written works that draw on new ideas and elements of their traditions. Artistically and pedagogically, the duo aims to empower creativity through the fundamentals of music and the development of personal sound. Kim Perlak and David Tronzo serve on the faculty of Berklee College of Music, where she is chair and he is professor of guitar.

Founded in 2014, the duo is based in the Berklee guitar department. In residence there, they have co-written two courses, Modern Writing and Spontaneous Composition. They reach the larger department and college community through concerts, clinics, and through the student-run Spontaneous Composition Club. The duo has traveled beyond Berklee for residencies and presentations at the Peabody Fretfest, Birmingham Southern College, and the International Association for Music and Medicine.

The Perlak/Tronzo Duo has recorded two albums of original music, “Circles” and “Suite”. Both were made possible, in part, by grants from Berklee.
